                            Dal Makhani 





Preparation Time -8hrs

Cooking Time -1hr


Ingrideints :


  • Urad dal 200 gm
  • Water for pressure cooking 3-4 cup.
  • Black cardamon or badi elaichBay leaves 
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp


Tempering for day makhani 
  • Butter 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida 1pinch
  • Chopped onion 1
  • Chopped potato 2
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Cloves 5-6
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 
  • Salt
  • Water to add later 2 cups 
  • Cream 2tbsp
  • Garam masala 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1 tbsp

Preparation :

1.Wash urad dal and soak overnight. 
2.Rinse the lentils for few times.
3.Then add it to the cooker also add cardamoms bay leaves. 
4.Pressure cook for 8 whistles on a medium heat.
5.The dal should be cooked gently.

How to make dal makhni

1.Heat a heavy bottom pot or khaki and put the oil/butter.
2.Add cumin seeds and allow to crackle.
3.Then add hing and ginger garlic paste and saute till turn golden brown. 
4.Then add chopped onion and cook till golden brown. 
5.Now add chopped tomatoes and cook for 2 mins
6.Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder,salt, garam masala, coriander and saute them.
7.Now let the cool this masala and make a puree of it.
8.Now take half dal and grind in grinder and keep aside.
9.Now put this puree on the pan again and add some butter and cook for minute.
10.Now add all the dal in this masala and add some water.
11.Cook this dal for some time on a low heat. 
12.Sprinkle the kasoori methi and add some more cream. 
 Serve with naan or parantha.

Note: dal makhni tastes best when slow cooked for long time.
